The Canadian Minister of Health has published two marketing authorizations, one for vitamin D in yoghurt and Kefir, and a second for the permission of a lower calcium threshold to carry a nutrition symbol for Cheese, Yoghurt, Kefir and Buttermilk.
With this second marketing authorization, Cheese, Yoghurt, Kefir and Buttermilk are exempt from the requirement to carry a front-of-pack nutrition symbol based on the presence of the "shortfall nutrient" calcium. A shortfall nutrient is a nutrient that Canada recognizes as being consumed too little within the country.
