New labeling requirements for dairy products containing palm oil
Serbia
Jun 09, 2025
The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management has adopted the Regulation on Additional Requirements for the Marketing of Dairy Products Containing Palm Oil. This regulation introduces, for the first time in Serbia, a clear visual labeling for such products, ensuring that consumers have accurate information about their purchases. Effective from August 1, the date when the new Regulation comes into force, if cheese, sour cream, or kajmak is not made entirely from milk, meaning if it contains palm oil or any other oil, it cannot bear names that may mislead the consumer. According to the new Regulation, which has already come into effect but has yet to be implemented, all dairy products that are not made 100% from milk must be clearly labeled with the indication "not 100% dairy, containing palm oil or other vegetable oil." The Regulation applies not only to producers but also encompasses traders, importers, restaurants, bakeries, and other public catering establishments involved in the preparation and delivery of food to the final consumer.
