Parliament publishes study on “labeling of vegetable-based seafood substitutes”

At the request of the European Parliament's Fisheries Committee, the European Parliament has published a new study on Labelling of plant-based seafood substitutes”. This study focuses on the recent development of the market for plant-based seafood substitutes and the challenges it has created for the EU fisheries sector in terms of labeling. The study shows that potentially non-compliant marketing strategies do indeed exist on a large scale, and provides an overview of national initiatives to address these problems. Finally, it proposes some adjustments to the current EU legal framework to ensure that the labeling of new products provides accurate information to consumers.
