FDA updates regulations governing dairy product designations and labeling requirement

Taiwan

Jun 16, 2025

The Food and Drug Administration promulgated the revised Regulations Governing the Product Names and Labeling of Prepackaged Milk, Sterilized Milk, Flavored Milk, Milk Drink, and Milk Powder.

The terms and labeling rules on product name are amended: Referring to the international standard terms, the term “fresh milk” is replaced with “edible animal milk”, and the product name should be labeled as “cow's milk”, “goat's milk” and other names. In addition, considering the names of the current fresh milk seals or related certification seals issued by the central agricultural authority, in order to avoid consumer confusion, it is clearly stipulated that only those who have obtained the “fresh milk seal” or “certification seal” of the Agricultural Products Production Management and Certification Act can be labeled as “fresh milk”.

It was added to the labeling regulations that the font size of liquid milk products must be adjusted according to volume.
