Through Decree 782/2021, published in the Official Gazette with the signatures of President Alberto Fernández, the Chief of Staff, Juan Manzur, and the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, Law 27642 on "Promotion of healthy eating" was enacted. , which was sanctioned on October 26 by the Chamber of Deputies. Food products must incorporate a label in the shape of a black octagon and white letters on the front of the containers as a warning about the high content of fats, sodium and sugars.
After the promulgation this Friday, the Executive Power has 90 days to regulate the norm. However, the legislators who discussed the project had anticipated that there could be almost two years of transition. Article 19 of the law sets a period of no more than 180 days from its entry into force. In addition, SMEs and popular cooperatives may exceed the implementation limit in a period of no more than 12 months, with the possibility of a 180-day extension in cases of justification for relevant reasons.
