New law for the strengthening of control over dietary supplements and food additives

The Head of State signed Law No. 4122-IX (Government Bill No. 11389) “On Amending Certain Laws of Ukraine to Improve Regulation of Production and Distribution of Dietary Supplements and on Regulation of Other Issues in the Field of Health Care”.
The law introduces the term “dietary supplement”, defines mechanisms for introducing dietary supplements into circulation and strengthens responsibility for their production and sale.
In addition, it provides for the approval of a list of vitamins, minerals, as well as their maximum permissible doses, which are allowed for use in dietary supplements.
The law eliminates the possibility of registering drugs under the guise of dietary supplements, which reduces the health risks for consumers.
The Law also strengthens liability for the production and sale of dietary supplements that do not comply with the requirements of the law; it regulates the procedure for submitting notifications on the introduction into circulation of dietary supplements, the maintenance of a list of such notifications and their publication on the official website of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
