Propose regulatory amendment to allow only domestically produced milk to be labeled as “fresh milk”
Taiwan
Mar 14, 2025
The Executive Yuan, Taiwan's highest administrative body, decided to introduce amendments to the law that will only allow milk produced in Taiwan to be labeled as “fresh”.
The Food Safety Bureau today invited relevant units and companies to a coordination meeting, proposing to regulate that only milk that has obtained the national fresh milk mark can be labeled as fresh milk.
As for possible legislative changes that the policy might entail, Hsu Fu (許輔), director of the Food Safety Bureau of the Executive Yuan, said the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health and Welfare and Ministry of Economy have several aspects to review. For example, the label of domestic fresh milk currently more closely resembles a trademark, and the Food Safety Law will be amended in the future to improve its status. In addition, the Regulation on the Name and Labeling of Fresh Milk, Long-life Milk, Flavored Milk Drinks and Milk Powder (CAS 3056) needs to be revised, as well as the key points for the issuance and use of the fresh milk label; general measures are expected to be implemented in July next year.
