MFDS announces amendment to food labeling and advertising

South Korea

Feb 14, 2025

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has initiated a public consultation on proposed amendments to the Enforcement Rule of the Act on Labelling and Advertising of Foods. Among the mandatory elements of food labelling, those directly related to consumers and food safety (e.g. expiry date, allergens, etc.) will be enhanced to be more visible on the product, and the remaining information (name of raw materials, article report number, etc.) will be expanded to be provided electronically through barcodes, thus increasing the readability of food products and reducing unnecessary waste of resources by easing the need to replace packaging materials.
