New requirements for labeling baby foods

The State Agency for Food Safety and Consumer Services of Ukraine amended the legal requirements for the labeling of baby food, which should include:
- Next to the name is indicated: the age of the child from which the product can be consumed.
- Special nutritional needs, functional conditions and/or diseases, in the presence of which it is recommended to use such foodstuffs.
- Information on the method of preparation and/or use of such food product and a warning about the danger to the child's health in case of improper preparation or storage, as well as, if relevant, a marking about the importance of following this method.
- Mandatory extended information on the nutritional value, which must additionally include the amount of each mineral (except molybdenum) and each vitamin, as well as the amount of choline, inositol and carnitine.
- Information on the vitamin and mineral content, which is expressed as a percentage of the corresponding reference consumption values;
- Information on the unconditional preference for breastfeeding;
- The labeling, presentation and advertising of infant formulae and follow-on formulae shall not contain the words “humanized”, “maternal”, “adapted” or any related words or their derivatives.
