Nigeria prepares to participate in the 48th Codex Committee on Food Labelling

Speaking during a meeting of the National Codex Committee in preparation for Nigeria's participation in the 48th Codex Committee on Food Labeling in Canada, the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has highlighted the overall benefits of Codex food labeling standards, saying they enhance food safety, prevent misleading descriptions and help consumers make informed choices.

The Director-General commended the members of the National Codex Committee (NCC), which comprises relevant federal government ministries, departments and agencies, industry and research institutes, for their continued commitment and dedication to Codex work as they come together to strengthen their collective efforts in food safety and consumer protection.

For her part, the director of Food Safety and Applied Nutrition noted that compliance with these standards facilitates access to international markets by ensuring that products meet various regulatory requirements.
