Brazil

Oct 10, 2024

Bill 2316/24 to regulate the size of letters used on food labels and packaging has been submitted to the Chamber of Deputies. The text analyzed in the Chamber of Deputies amends Decree-Law 986/69, which deals with basic food standards.

According to the bill, food expiration dates must be written in letters and numbers with a minimum height of 5 millimeters, in a prominent place on food labels and packaging, in a clear and easy-to-see manner.

Currently, Decree-Law 986/69 establishes that information on the lot and date of manufacture must be displayed in legible characters.
