FSSAI proposes new standards for labelling of milk fats, fermented milk products and haleem

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued a Draft Notification of FSS (FPS & FA) Amendment Regulations, 2024 relating to milk fat composition, Fermented Milk, Haleem, garam masala, dried peppermint, indigotin and processing aids.

The following has been stated:

  • In regulation 2.1, in sub-regulation 2.1.1, after clause 7 relating to ‘Use of enzymes', the following shall be inserted, namely: -

Clause 8 Milk fat Composition.

  • In regulation 2.5, sub-regulation 2.5.2, after clause 5 relating to Cooked or Semi-Cooked Meat Products, the following clause shall be inserted, namely: -

5A Haleem

The new standards for "Haleem" specify its ingredients and preparation methods, including mandatory moisture, protein, and fat content requirements. Additionally, the regulations omit certain items and requirements related to fat spreads and mixed masala powders, enhancing clarity and compliance with food Labeling and standards.
