CONAL discusses new amendments on food labeling and incorporation of novel foods at its 155th meeting

The National Food Commission (CONAL in Spanish) has held the third session of the year (155th Meeting) with the participation of national health authorities. The following topics were discussed during the meeting:

 

  • Approval of 7 dossiers to the final stage of administrative processing, for the incorporation in the Argentine Food Code of hydroelectrolytic supplements, edible flowers, vegetable arropes and flour, incorporation of canaryseed, fruits of the butia yatay palm tree and additives.
  • The draft amendments to articles 235 and 1381 of the Argentine Food Code on Health Property Declarations (DPS in Spanish) for use in labeling, as well as the incorporation of additives in fruits and microbiological criteria in herbs for infusion, among others, are under Public Consultation.
  • The incorporation to the Argentine Food Code of dehydrated grape pomace and apple pomace, the incorporation of new enzymes that were presented within the framework of the “Instructions for the application of articles 1263 and 1263 bis”, among others, are under Public Consultation.
  • The discussion of new topics began, such as the incorporation of olive leaf for infusion, sake and a request to update the articles on lemon juice.
