South Korea proposes to modify labeling requirements for high-caffeine foods such as guarana

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has published Notice No. 2024-366, which proposes to modify part of the “Rules for the Implementation of Laws Related to Food Labeling and Advertising. It is worth noting that the draft amendment proposes:
- To improve the provision of nutritional information to consumers, the scope of nutritional labeling requirements has been expanded, in line with major countries such as the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan and China.
- Guarana as raw material, solid foods containing more than a certain amount of caffeine, etc., should also be marked as high-caffeine foods and strengthen the warning label, so that consumers understand.
