Japan proposes partial revision of regulation on function claims

On June 26, 2024, the Japanese Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) announced a proposed partial revision to the Food Labeling Standards under the Food Labeling Act. The revision aims to prevent health damage from foods with function claims and to enhance the system's credibility. The proposed changes require Food Business Operators (FBOs) to report suspected health hazards to authorities and mandate GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) for dietary supplements.
