India cracks down on misleading "100% Fruit Juice" claims

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has found that several Food Business Operators (FBOs) are falsely labeling reconstituted fruit juices as "100% fruit juice."
According to the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018, such claims are misleading, especially when the primary ingredient is water or when juices are made from concentrates.
Therefore, the FSSAI has mandated that labels must clearly state "reconstituted" and adhere to the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020. FBOs must comply immediately and use up existing packaging by September 1, 2024.
