Russia mandates new marking rules for canned food

On May 27, 2024, the Russian government approved new rules for marking certain types of canned foods in consumer packaging (Order No. 677).
Starting September 1, 2024, businesses must register in the state monitoring system for goods subject to mandatory marking. By December 1, 2024, identification markings must be applied to canned fish, water invertebrates, and other water animal products, with additional product categories following on March 1, 2025.
The enforcement aims to improve traceability and compliance with food safety standards.
