Regulatory proposals on labeling of meat products, wine and origin indication
Switzerland
Apr 12, 2024
The Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) has published several ordinances proposals related to:
- mandatory labelling of animal products that are produced using pain-causing procedures without analgesia;
- for the labelling of wine and the indication of origin of food ingredients, Swiss law will be adapted to that of the EU in order to reduce barriers to trade. With regard to wine, a list of ingredients and a nutrition declaration will be mandatory in the future for all wines, sparkling wines, and semi-sparkling wines;
- with regard to the origin labeling of quantitatively important ingredients, the requirement will apply in the future irrespective of the presentation of the product but instead of the country of origin also a larger geographical area can be indicated.
