Turkey amends food labelling regulation

On the 6th of April, the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced changes to its Food Codex Regulation on Consumer Information and Food Labeling.
The amendment aims at improving consumer protection and brings the Regulation more in line with that of the EU. Among the changes are:
- the update of the definition of "basic field of view" and the mandatory indication of the name and net weight of the food on the basic field of view;
- for products containing alcohol, sugar or sweeteners, the mandatory indication of this information in a font that clearly distinguishes it from other information;
- for products containing pork, the mandatory indication of this information right next to the name of the food;
- the prohibition to use real food images when only flavorings are used in the food;
- the prohibition to use expressions such as "taste of...", "flavor of...", etc. in the name or on the label of a food which can be confused with another food not having the same characteristics.
