New provision on gluten free food and beverages

The Secretariat of Quality in Health and Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries have published the "Joint Resolution N° 32/2023", to amend Article 1383 of the Argentine Food Code on gluten free food products.
According to the new provision, "gluten-free food and beverage" is defined as food which, due to its ingredients or due to an appropriate technological process that effectively removes gluten, as well as the application of good manufacturing practices which prevent cross-contamination, does not contain prolamins and glutelins from wheat, all species of Triticum, such as common escaña (Triticum spelta L.), kamut (Triticum polonicum L.), durum wheat, rye, barley, oats or their crossbred varieties. The gluten content shall not exceed a maximum of 10 mg/kg.
