Bill on proper labeling of gluten introduced in Pennsylvania

USA

Jun 07, 2024

On June 4, 2024, Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti and Representative Mary Jo Daley introduced legislation to mandate proper gluten labeling on food and medicine in Pennsylvania.

Senate Bills 1166 and 1167, and House Bills 2122 and 2120 aim to aid those with Celiac Disease and gluten intolerances. “A Celiac diagnosis is an extraordinary challenge for any family,” said Sen. Cappelletti. Rep. Daley highlighted that current federal laws only require wheat labeling, leaving out other gluten sources like barley and rye.

The legislation seeks to align Pennsylvania with over 87 countries that already mandate gluten labeling.
