Proposal to Review Conditions for Nutrient Content Claims and Statements

Health Canada's Food Directorate has proposed amendments to the conditions for "no added fat" claim and various protein claims and statements provided under the "Nutrition labelling Table of permitted nutrient content statements and claims", which is incorporated by reference into the Food and Drug Regulations (FDR).
The table sets out the conditions for making nutrient content statements and claims that are permitted on foods for sale in Canada. The proposed amendments include updating the references to food standards and methods of analysis to align with the proposed "Regulations Amending Certain Regulations Concerning Food Additives and Compositional Standards, Microbiological Criteria and Methods of Analysis for Food" pre-published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on November 4, 2023.
