FSSAI suspends enforcement of labeling rules for the Indian Yogurt "Dahi"

India

Jul 11, 2023

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) published the "Direction under Section 16(5) of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 regarding abeyance of enforcement of provision related to labelling requirement for fermented milk products, in notification F.No. Std/Notifications/35.1/2021 dated 11.01.2023".

In consideration of comments received from various stakeholders on the provision of amendments to the regulations related to the use of the term 'Dahi' primarily in the nomenclature of fermented milk products and optionally in conjunction with any other designation (predominant regional common name) on the label, FSSAI has decided to initiate action to revise this provision which is likely to take some time to be finalized.

Meanwhile, the enforcement of clause 6(a)(i) of subregulation 2.1.13, Notification F.No. Std/Notifications/35.1/2021, regarding labelling requirements for fermented milk products, is suspended until further notice.
