Front-of-package: "high in calories" warning no longer needed

The Senate approved the bill on front labeling of packaged foods, with the modifications introduced in the House of Representatives. With this version, the products will no longer bear the inscription "high in calories", since they will have the exact amount of calories.

Senator Jorge Querey, president of the Public Health and Social Security Commission, pointed out that it is necessary to establish mandatory front warning labeling on processed foods, according to the calories and nutritional composition of sugars, saturated fats and sodium, and to protect the health and human rights of the population by incorporating the information of the "high calorie" content, in a visible, quick and easily understandable way for the consumer's decision making".
