Extended application period for the Regulation on advertising and labeling claims

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued the extension of the application of the Direction under Section 16 (5) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 in relation to the enforcement of the Food Safety and Standards (Advertisement and Complaints) Second Amendment Regulations, 2022.

Standard 4 specifies that in the case where the trademark or fancy name contains adjectives such as "natural", "fresh", "pure", etc., the statement "This is only a trademark or fancy name and does not represent its true nature; (whichever is appropriate)" should be added in a prominent place on the front of the label container.

After due consideration of the representations of the Food Business Operators and also to ensure sustainable practices far food business operations, it has been decided to extend the enforcement of sub-regulation (7) of regulation 4 of Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Second Amendment Regulations, 2022 for a period of six months from the date of notification.
