Authorities ask for 'flexibility' in draft EU egg rules

The EU legislative change on a maximum shelf life of 28 days for eggs has drawn attention in Norway, as Norwegian eggs are refrigerated with a salmonella guarantee. This week, the Norwegian Farmers' Association delivered consultation responses directly to the EU.

Norwegian officials have written to the European Commission to express concern about possible changes to the rules on the shelf life of eggs.

Ingvild Kjerkol, Minister of Health and Care Services, and Sandra Borch, Minister of Agriculture and Food of Norway, sent a letter to Stella Kyriakides, EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety.
