NETHERLANDS - NATURAL VINEGAR RECEIVES LEGAL PROTECTION

The Dutch Commodities Act Protected Designations (in Dutch: Warenwetbesluit Gereserveerde aanduidingen) will be amended with the addition of a specific definition for vinegar obtained from products of agricultural origin. The adopted standard aims to differentiate natural vinegar (in Dutch: natuurazijn) from synthetically obtained vinegar.
Given the application of the European Union mutual recognition principle, the requirement does not impact the sale of vinegar that is legally marketed in other EU member states.
