Restrictions on the use and labeling of aloe vera in foodstuffs

The Ministry of Health and Welfare has revised the regulations on the use of aloe vera leaves. In the future, if aloe vera is to be used as a food raw material, it must be the leaves of Aloe vera and A. ferox varieties, and it must be completely peeled before it can be used, in addition, to further standardize the use of aloe vera leaves as a raw material, the aloin content must not exceed 10 ppm, and the labeling must warn "pregnant women should not eat." The new requirements take effect from January 1, 2023.
