Amendment to salt requirements

The Ministry of Health published a draft amendment to the Food Sanitary Regulations (RSA in Spanish) at the request of companies importing Himalayan salt, since this food product in natural form contains levels of sodium sulfate higher than 1.5% established in article 439 of the RSA. For this reason, the standards that Codex Alimentarius has developed in relation to sodium chloride and its natural contaminants were reviewed, where up to 3% of natural contaminants, including sodium sulfate, are accepted.
