Codex

Mar 03, 2025

The 23rd session of the Codex Committee on Fresh Fruits and Vegetables (CCFFV) has concluded in Mexico City, with the much-anticipated proposed standard for fresh dates finally agreed after ten years of discussion. The proposed text will be forwarded to the next Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) meeting for adoption.

The CCFFV meeting also discussed the possible need to review CCFFV standards to ensure they align with the CCFFV standard layout. Under consideration were the Standard for Avocado (CXS 197-1995) and the Standard for Asparagus (CXS 225-2001). The Committee agreed to continue work on the alignment of existing standards through an electronic working group chaired by Germany.

In terms of new work proposals, the Committee agree to forward to CAC two proposals: one on fresh turmeric and the other on fresh broccoli.
