The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has introduced the Food Additives and Novel Foods (Authorisations and Miscellaneous Amendments) and Food Flavourings (Removal of Authorisations) (England) Regulations 2024.
The legislation authorizes four new novel foods and three food additives, updates existing food additive specifications, and removes 22 previously authorized food flavorings. It also establishes a maximum limit for ethylene oxide in all authorized food additives. These changes aim to ensure food safety and regulatory clarity while aligning with post-Brexit independent safety assessments.
