On June 5th 2024, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has notified the re-operationalisation of the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling & Display) Amendment Regulations, 2022, effective from January 1, 2023.
These regulations introduce changes to nutritional labelling requirements, exempt certain products from detailed labelling, and specify conditions for non-retail packaging. They aim to enhance clarity and compliance in food labelling across various categories, including infant nutrition products and health supplements. The amendments also mandate clear labelling for fortified foods and revise warning statements for products like Pan Masala. The government emphasizes these updates will bolster consumer protection and regulatory efficiency.
