Fatwa Committee takes position on halal cultivated meat

Following the approval of cultivated chicken meat by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), the Fatwa Committee of Singapore has issued a guidance addressing the religious issues linked to the consumption and the production of cultivated meat.
According to the Fatwa Committee, cultivated meat is halal or permissible to be consumed by Muslims if the following conditions are fulfilled:
- Cell source is taken from animals that are halal to consume;
- Every ingredient that makes up texture and composition of cultivated meat is halal;
- Product is non-toxic and clean.
