Halal certification is mandatory for domestic and imported foods

The Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH in Indonesian) of the Ministry of Religion has announced the publication of Government Regulation No. 42 of 2024 on the Implementation of the Scope of Halal Product Assurance which outlines the first phase of mandatory halal certification.

This requirement applies to all food and beverage products entering, circulating or being traded in Indonesian territory. To supervise the implementation of halal certification obligations as mandated by Law Number 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurances, BPJPH will conduct the supervision of Halal Product Assurances simultaneously from October 18, 2024,” said BPJPH director Haikal Hasan at a press conference held in Jakarta

However, for imported products, the implementation of mandatory halal certification has been postponed until 2026.
