New measures for "imitation” and “cell-cultured” meat and poultry

The new bipartisan bill "Fair and Accurate Ingredient Representation on Labels Act of 2024" has been introduced with the aim to boost transparency and clarify labeling requirements for plant-protein and cell-cultured protein products. 

The draft FAIR Labels Act provides definitions for "imitation” and “cell-cultured” meat and poultry, requiring labels to include terms like "imitation" accompanied by a clear disclaimer for products not containing meat or poultry, and requiring labels of cell-cultured meat and poultry to represent lab-grown food sources.
