Representative Jim Grego, R-Wilburton, announced about the OKLAHOMA Governor's enactment of House Bill 1126 that will require food products with manufactured protein to be clearly labeled to distinguish them from meat.
House Bill 1126 will require food manufacturers, distributors and retailers to clearly state that cell-grown products or those from laboratories, plants or insect proteins are not meat. Those convicted of misleading advertising could face a misdemeanor.
Under the provisions of the bill, the burden of proof would be on the manufacturer, not the retailer, Grego said. The Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry would be responsible for investigating all credible allegations that food products are falsely advertised or mislabeled as meat products.
