ANVISA challenged for postponing the adoption of front-of-pack labeling

Brazil

Jan 30, 2024

The Brazilian Institute of Consumer Protection (IDEC in Portuguese) has just filed a public civil lawsuit (ACP in Portuguese) before the Federal Court of São Paulo against the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA in Portuguese) challenging the extension of the deadline to adapt the nutritional warning labeling of foods and beverages indicating high amounts of sodium, added sugar and saturated fats.

IDEC requests an interim injunction so that companies are obliged to use stickers on the packaging of their products with a front-of-pack magnifying glass and new nutritional table, as required by RDC No. 429/2020 and ANVISA's Regulatory Instruction (IN) No. 75/2020.
