FDA proposes new limits for vitamins and minerals

Philippines

Jan 18, 2024

The Philippines Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published for comments the FDA Circular entitled "Guidelines draft for the Classification of Vitamins and Minerals for Food/Dietary Supplements under Processed Food Product". The draft Circular aims at repealing the Provisions for Food in the Office Order No. 22 s. 1991, providing guidelines on the classification of vitamins and minerals as food/dietary supplements and setting updated limits for vitamins and minerals to be classified as food/dietary supplements under processed food products.

The new limits for vitamins and minerals have been set in alignment with the different references available at international level, such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Codex Alimentarius Commission, the Food and Agriculture Organization/World Health Organization (FAO/WHO), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and the USFDA, among others.
