Research after a safety alert issues by the FDA in January is continuing to provide more cases with adverse effects following the use of dietary supplements that contain toxic yellow oleander.
Most products that caused these adverse effects were labelled as containing tejocote (Crataegus mexicana) root or Brazil seed whilst in reality containing yellow oleander (Thevetia peruviana), a poisonous plant native to Mexico and Central America. Whilst most cases concerned relatively minor adverse effects, one serious advert event occurred after the consumption of Green ELV Nutrition´s Elv Control Herbal Supplement. The FDA is contacting all the relevant companies to request them to recall their products.
