Commission amends egg marketing standards

The following Regulations have been published on the Official Journal of the European Union:

  • Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/2466: the Regulation lays down rules for the implementation of marketing standards for eggs of hens of the Gallus gallus species, except eggs for hatching, in particular as regards identification of producers and packing centres, the records to be kept by producers, collectors and packing centres, the checks of conformity and the notifications.   • Commission Regulation (EC) No 589/2008: the Regulation supplements Regulation (EU) No 1308/2013 with rules on the marketing standards for eggs of hens of the Gallus gallus species, except eggs for hatching, in particular as regards the classification criteria, the preservation and handling, the marking and packing requirements, the use of optional reserved terms, the tolerance levels and the conditions for imports and exports.   • Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/2464: the Regulation amends Point III of Part VI of Annex VII to Regulation (EU) No 1308/2013 as follows:
    • point 2 is replaced by the following: "2. The marking of eggs in accordance with point 1 shall take place at the production site.";
    • the following point 2a is inserted: "2a. Member States may, based on objective criteria, exempt eggs from the requirement laid down in point 2 when the marking is carried out in the first packing centre to which eggs are delivered.”
