Government relaxes food import and labeling rules during the conflict

Israel

Oct 30, 2023

The Israeli Ministry of Economy has announced that dozens of imported products will be exempted from inspection and other approval procedures to facilitate their entry into Israel and to prevent shortages during the war with Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Importers will be exempted from submitting the certificate of compliance with local standards that typically allows for shipments release from customs supervision. However, the exemption from the official approval will not exempt the importer from the obligation to comply with the applicable local standards requirements, which shall always be ensured.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health will temporarily stop the enforcement of red dots symbol for food high in salt, sugar and fat, and of the marking of mineral water bottles in Hebrew.
