New rules on meat analogues descriptors to be approved

The Chamber of Deputies has approved a bill "that modifies the Sanitary Code, to define the concept of meat and prohibit using that denomination for products that are not of animal origin".

According to the bill the names associated with products of animal origin, such as 'hamburger', 'chorizo', 'sausage', 'jerky', etc., cannot be used to describe, promote or market food products that contain product of plant origin in quantity higher than meat.

The bill is now going to be discussed by the Senate, before becoming a Law.
