Decree on food consumption date
France
Nov 28, 2022
The government has published a new decree n 2022-1440 of November 17, 2022 within article 412-7 of the Consumer Code provides that when a food product has a minimum durability date (MDS) (e.g. "best before"), it may be accompanied, on a voluntary basis, by a statement, provided by decree, informing consumers that the product may continue to be consumed after that date.
The Decree provides that Food Business Operators will be able to:
- add the words: "For optimal taste" before the indication of the date.
- add the sentence: "This product can be consumed after this date" in the same field of vision as the date of minimum durability.
- or combine the two aforementioned mentions.
