New mandatory standard for paper and cardboard food contact

The China’s National Health Commission (NHC) has published a revised food contact standard for paper and cardboard and a new one covering bamboo and wood.
GB 4806.8-2022 will enter into force on 30 June 2023 when it will replace GB 4806.8-2016, the existing national food safety standard for food contact paper and board materials and their products.
As with the existing version, the revised standard covers paper and cardboard materials and products transferred to food, including waxed paper, silicone oiled paper and pulp moulded products, and:
- Modifies its scope;
- Revises several terms and definitions;
- Revises the raw material requirements;
- Modifies sensory requirements;
