New olive oil quality standard approved
Spain
Sep 06, 2021
On September 1, the Royal Decree 760/2021, which approves the quality standard for olive and olive pomace oils, was published in the Official State Gazette.
This decree includes a series of requirements on traceability, processing and packaging of the final product that will place Spanish olive oil as the highest quality worldwide and with the maximum guarantees throughout the production process.
Among the changes, the terms "virgin" and "extra virgin", designations for pure olive juice, may only be used for olive oil and not for any other vegetable fat in the Spanish market.
