New Bill on Food safety and disclosure of chemical substances in food

State Senator Brian Kavanagh has introduced in the New York State Legislature the Food Safety and Chemical Disclosure Act (S1239/A1556) that would require food companies to disclose to the public the use of any “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) ingredients. The bill would ban certain food additives and chemical colorants from the general food supply, and a broader range of such chemicals from foods served to children in schools, and would require disclosure to the state and public of ingredients that may currently be secretly added by food producers, as well as safety data showing the ingredients are safe.
