Canada approves natamycin as a preservative

Canada

Jun 06, 2024

Health Canada has approved the extended use of natamycin as preservative in unstandardized processed cheese products, standardized and unstandardized cream cheeses, and ranch-flavored dressings and dips.

Natamycin is now permitted at levels of 10 to 20 parts per million, depending on the product. This decision follows a comprehensive safety and efficacy assessment by Health Canada's Food and Nutrition Directorate. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency will enforce the updated regulations, aiming to enhance food safety and extend product shelf life.
