Japan reviews labeling after Red Yeast Rice scandal

The health hazard caused by the beni koji supplements of Kobayashi Pharmaceutical, which has been linked with 5 deaths and 200 hospitalizations, has led to a reaction from the Japanese Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA).
The CAA has set up a study group, with the participation of experts from various fields, to review the current labeling system of foods with functional claims to prevent a similar incident from happening in the future.
