MAFF revises standards for carbonated beverages

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) has revised the standards for carbonated beverages.
The main changes concern:
- Amendment of the scope of the standards to expand the standards' application to new products;
- Incorporation of the general standard for food additives and of the reference standards for fruit juice drinks;
- Increase requirements for the raw materials, such as: water shall not contain free chlorine; ash content of sugar shall be ≤ 0.03% by acid anhydride; ash content of fruit glucose syrup shall be ≤ 0.015% by acid anhydride.
