Pectinase and Pectin Esterase authorized as food enzymes

Canada

Oct 06, 2023

Health Canada's Food Directorate has completed the premarket safety assessments of two submissions seeking authorization for the use of two types of pectinase, pectinesterase from Aspergillus oryzae AR-962 and polygalacturonase from Aspergillus oryzae AR-183, as food additives in fruit and vegetable processing and wine production.

The results of the premarket assessments support the safety of pectinesterase from Aspergillus oryzae AR-962 and polygalacturonase from Aspergillus oryzae AR-183 for their requested uses. Consequently, Health Canada has enabled the use of pectinesterase from Aspergillus oryzae AR-962 and polygalacturonase from Aspergillus oryzae AR-183 by modifying the List of Permitted Food Enzymes, effective September 28, 2023.
